Welcome Skate Store x Vans Go Skate Day 2025 Recap

12/07/2025

Illustrious skater owned store Welcome combined forces with purveyors of the waffle to generate a banging Go Skate Day for 2025 at Leeds’ renowned Hyde Park Skatepark. Vans & Welcome incorporated some bespoke obstacles to compliment the permanent fixtures of the park and keep it fresh. Check the photo round up from Reece Leung below and scroll further to see moving imagery courtesy of Josh Hallett. Tonnes of stuff has gone down at Hyde over the years but we thought we’d remind you of this gem.

A huge thank you to Welcome, Vans & everyone who showed up and brought positivity!

Perfect amount of detail. You ever want to see an exhibition or a gig and they do a post saying everything but the relevant date, time or venue? What’s with that? Photo by: Reece Leung

Give a man a mic and he eats for one day, give a man a megaphone and the village can feast for longer etc. Fraser Flav from the Sidewalk forum live and uncut. Photo by: Reece Leung

There’s a skatepark union which requires at least one person to sit on one of the obstacles at all times, why would today be any different? Photo by: Reece Leung

A lot of people think that a lot of meticulous planning, measuring and research goes into these events. Well they’re wrong, there’s just a cosmic dude who was unbelievable at Tetris in the 80s who resides behind the One Stop. All you have to do is blow an ancient horn three times and he’ll sort it for you in exchange for some Space Raiders and one of the old glass bottles of Tizer. Photo by: Reece Leung

Expecting a “give a man a mic” gag repeat? Well we’ve moved on physically and emotionally from that and maybe you should to! Welcome Skate Store don Adam Smith teaching a village to megaphone. Photo by: Reece Leung

“The Summer Solstice occurs when one of Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun. It happens twice a year, once in each hemisphere, when the sun is at its highest position in the sky. Since prehistory, the Summer Solstice has been a significant time of year in many cultures, and has been marked by festivals and rituals. Traditionally, in temperate regions (especially Europe), the Summer Solstice is seen as the middle of summer and referred to as “midsummer”; although today in some countries and calendars it is seen as summer’s beginning. The Summer Solstice is the day with the longest period of daylight and shortest night of the year in that hemisphere, in the Northern Hemisphere this is the 21st of June. That is why Go Skateboarding Day is on the 21st of June. Thanks Wikipedia, but more importantly thanks to Vans and all the homies for helping us put together a glorious day of skateboarding.”

X.

Welcome
