When you try to do something positive for the local skate scene but the city doesn’t want you, what do you do? Give up, or do it the true skateboarding way…
The Barcelona skate scene took the DIY skate mentality to a whole new level and proved how resourceful and creative skateboarders can be. With only 48 hours notice of permits being denied for their event at the iconic Macba big 4 (now 3) block last weekend, the guys behind the Macba Life community, got to work with the help of Sb Ramps and built an entire replica of the famous spot in a warehouse on the outskirts of the city, graffiti tags and everything. “Build it and they will come” as the saying goes.
With flights booked, sponsorship from Monster and Volcom paid, there was no other choice but to make it happen.
Yeah, it wasn’t exactly what everyone signed up for, but the invited riders and locals still showed up, put down and took home the cash. With a packed crowd, cold beers flowing and even an appearance of Macba’s famous Samosas, Barcelona, the vibe was real!
MVP’s go to Intibaked, Giovanni Vianna, Agusstin Figueroa and Juancarlos Gonzalez.
