It had been a while since we’ve done a Welcome team trip, so at the beginning of Autumn it only made sense to ditch the wet and cold weather of Leeds for somewhere more enjoyable. Bordeaux is bloody beautiful. It’s full of picturesque architecture, lovely people, delicious crêpes and incredible spots. The West Yorkshire weather, however, hopped on the EasyJet flight with us and it rained pretty much every day. Who knows what we would have done for a week in the wet without Andrea Dupre, probably the best tour guide you’d ever need even if street skating isn’t an option. Decent pub with the footy on, private skatepark session, best kebab in the city… you know Andrea’s got that link!

The idea of the trip was to go somewhere none of us had been before to film an edit and shoot an article with Reece. After an all too casual bomb scare at the airport after landing, we were in Bordeaux. The squad was Zeta, Dean, Shez, Blinky, Albie, Zealand and, when Starkie had to pull out at the last minute, Blasty was on hand to book a flight and announce he was “not smoking weed for the week.” A week in his world must be about 4 hours, because he was sparking up in the Airbnb courtyard in no time.

It may have rained constantly but there’s no chance of wallowing in self pity when Blinky is around. His non-stop energy levels are pretty infectious and we managed to make the best of a soggy situation. The beers flowed, the dice rolled, the chess matches were intense and ultimately we did come home with some photos and clips that the crew were hyped on. Thank you Andrea and thank you Bordeaux. Where’s next? Helsinki in January?
